Where To Go From Here: Pondering The Next Chapter Of This Noise Is Ours

Earlier this month the blog reached a pretty significant milestone and since then I've been thinking about where do go with it. It's been twelve and a half years since I started this, and I want to keep going. I've tried some things over the years that haven't worked out (I.E. trying to take things in a more serious, journalistic direction) and I still have ambitions to grow the blog.

I've started reaching out to artists for a small project that I want to make happen, but aside from that I'm a bit stuck for ideas. I've tried to get a distro off the ground before and have put serious thought into helping to release music with like-minded labels/bands, but it never felt like the right time. I'm not afraid to make a financial investment, in fact I recognise that it'll be necessary to do so whatever direction I go in.

I guess what I'm trying to say with this post is that I'm looking for inspiration and advice from people more experienced. What would you recommend and what advice can you give me? Please comment or DM me on social media. Thanks

This Noise Is Ours: February 2023 Spotify Playlist

A little later than planned but here's my February 2023 Spotify playlist, which acts as a round-up of the band's that were featured on the blog across the month. This one is small but perfectly formed, owing to the fact that half of the bands don't have songs from the releases covered on Spotify. I'll share separate links to them below.

Bandcamp links are below:-

February was a really fun and varied month musically, as you can probably tell from the above. Please go back and visit anything you've missed, support the bands and let me know if this whole idea is actually working! I'd love to hear from you and read your feedback. Thanks

This Noise Is Ours: January 2023 Spotify Playlist

I thought I'd do something new this year as I've finally got a Spotify account. I don't use it often but the playlist option is something I've been keen to make use of, as an extra promotional tool to help share the bands and music I've featured.

I wrote about 13 bands and 11 releases in January, so I've put together a playlist featuring a song from each of them (well, those that are on Spotify anyway!). You can give it a listen below:-

For those bands that are not on Spotify, I've included bandcamp streams below:-

Let me know what you think of this idea. I will be putting more playlists together as the year progresses, including some special ones that I'm currently planning.

This Noise Is Ours 10th Anniversary Digital Compilation Is Live!

Today marks the 10th anniversary of This Noise Is Ours. I started in the blog in 2010 (back then it was called Stay Ahead). I really had no idea what I was doing but I was excited about heavy music and was just getting into record collecting. A few years down the line, I changed the name to This Noise Is Ours.

I've always been bowled over by the support the blog's received and by the friends I've made, both in real live and online. This compilation gathers together music created by friends and bands that mean a lot to me. Some I've feature before, some I haven't. They all share the same passion for music as I do. I feel proud of the fact that I've kept this thing running as long as I have and I hope to continue to do so for years to come. Please download this comp, listen to it and share it. Thanks for your support. P.S. please support the bands included here.

10th Anniversary Digital Compilation News and Artwork Reveal

In a month's time, it'll be 10 years to the day since I started what is now This Noise Is Ours. To celebrate that amazing milestone, I'm putting together a special digital compilation that will be free to download via the blog's bandcamp page. It's been 4 years since my last 'Reverberations' comp, so I wanted this one to be special. It incorporates music from bands I've covered on here, as well a music by friends I've met and bonded with along the way. As with my two previous compilations, there will be something for everyone, from acoustic emo to punk, metal and noise.

I wanted to use this update to also reveal the artwork for the comp, which is based on a photo that was taken by my good friend Jesper (of Young Mountain/Nathan Aeli, both of whom will be appearing on the comp!):-

I am going to begin prep work this weekend, prior to the comps release next month. So far 19 bands are participating in it with more still to be added. If you're in a band that fits and would like to be included, there's still time to send a track across. Please send a WAV format track of your choice to tnio@outlook.com before 21st October. Thanks!

This Noise Is Ours Patreon

Once again I forgot that another blog anniversary had passed. This Noise Is Ours has now been running for just over nine years. With that in mind, I've put some thought and attention into where I want to take this. I've always wanted it to be something bigger than just a blog so I've set up a Patreon page with the aim of expanded beyond it and also helping out some good causes along the way.

If you decide to become a patron, your support would mean that I can put some projects into motion that would include tape releases and special merchandise for patrons (t-shirts, stickers, posters etc) amongst other things. Patrons will have their names added to a new page on here and will also receive some extra surprises as things grow.

I also have the YouTube channel that I'll be using to provide updates and added content relating to the blog.
